"I wish I had forced myself to do solo shows a lot earlier," says Colin. "Having done it, what you get immediately is a sense of where the dead spots are in a song. You can sing a line and get an immediate response, so you know when you've made your point and can move on." On his recent tour, Colin has been playing a mixture of new material and his favourite back catalogue tracks, recreating the songs acoustically and giving his voice space to carry the drama. This album captures the spirit of those concerts, recorded acoustically at London's famous Abbey Road studios in November 1999.

After nearly 50 new songs, extensive solo tours and three live albums capturing them for posterity, ‘Colin Vearncombe’ goes into hiding once more: Black is back. ‘Between two churches’, released in 2005, is the first Black album since 1993.

“The ambiguity of the name Black gives me valuable freedom as a singer/songwriter,” said Colin of the return to his former pen name.

“This is the one I’ve been working towards: the best one since the first one.”

‘Between Two Churches’ was produced by Calum MacColl. Calum’s songwriting, production and performance credits include work with Brian Kennedy, Eddi Reader, Boo Hewerdine, the Backstreet Boys, Ronan Keating, Natalie Imbruglia, Cathy Dennis, and Christie Hennessy.
